A former developer suspects that “GTA 6” will benefit from the “GTA 5” new edition for PS5 & Co.
It looked a bit like a bad joke when Sony announced the release of “GTA 5” for the PlayStation 5 in early June 2020. Because the game first appeared in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360 and has already been warmed up again for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. In addition, gamers had expected that developer Rockstar Games would use the vortex surrounding the next generation of consoles to finally launch “GTA 6”. But that was obviously never the plan – at least suspects the former Rockstar Games employee Darion Lowenstein and provides a plausible explanation for why gamers shouldn’t expect “GTA 6” for the time being.
GTA 6: Too complex for a launch title
As the former producer explains in a current TikTok video, it is not very desirable for developers to develop games for platforms that have not yet been released. The reason: in the run-up to a console starts, the technical specifications and requirements of the devices change frequently, so that developers have to keep changing. In addition, there is often simply a lack of experience with the new hardware to implement more complex ideas. To develop a technically demanding game like “GTA 6” under these conditions is simply too time-consuming and laborious, according to Lowenstein. He even considers the announcement of a re-remaster of “GTA 5” for PS5 and Xbox Series X to be a very positive sign. Because working on the new edition could give Rockstar Games the experience it needs to get everything right in “GTA 6”. The new game could therefore benefit greatly from the remaster.

GTA 6: New Notes on the Launch Date!
An approximate period for “GTA 6” is apparently fixed. Until then, fans of the series will have to wait a long time.
Hardly any game developer is so popular with gamers as Rockstar Games with its top titles “Red Dead Redemption” and “Grand Theft Auto” (“GTA”). The gangster epic in particular has been convincing since 1997, but the last offshoot “GTA 5” is now almost seven years old. The fans rightly ask themselves when a new part will appear that takes storytelling and staging to a new level – especially after the strong “Red Dead Redemption 2” the expectations are enormous. Now, according to Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat, after much rumor and speculation, there is finally a tangible lead.
GTA 6: Astronomical Spending
Where do the new clues come from? Take-Two Interactive as the parent company has issued a forecast for future issues. It says what the costs will be over the next five years. The marketing figures between April 2023 and March 2024 will be interesting – a hefty 90 million US dollars (almost 82 million euros) are planned for advertising and similar things this fiscal year. An unusually high sum that Take-Two only achieved for one game: “Red Dead Redemption 2”.
A rogue who thinks evil! Conversely, this also means: A release before 2023 is almost unthinkable, if the advertising measures start late, then a new offshoot of the popular series may not be expected until 2024. However, this also makes sense from a company point of view, because by then the new consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have sold accordingly, a double development for several platforms as with “GTA 5” is therefore not necessary.
